Press Release

Hughes Watters Askanase Attorney Henry A. Jakob

Scheduled to Speak at Judgment Enforcement Seminar

HOUSTON, Texas (June 25, 2008) - Henry A. Jakob, an attorney with Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA), will be speaking at the Judgment Enforcement in Texas Seminar concerning fair debt collection practices on July 15, 2008, in Houston.

Jakob will offer his perspective on "Fair Debt Collection Practices" as counsel defending debt collectors when they are sued for violating consumer protection laws.  He also will serve on a panel discussion that will be moderated by Hugh M. Ray III, partner with Weycer Kaplan Pulaski & Zuber PC and a member of the American Law Institute.

Jakob was chosen as a speaker and panelist because of his specific experience defending debt collectors (including attorneys). He also has extensive experience litigating in and out of bankruptcy court and assisting both secured and unsecured creditors in their debt collection efforts.

"We are all becoming familiar and comfortable with more frequent use of technology such as voice mail, e-mail and caller ID. In fact, we take these conveniences for granted," Jakob said. "From a regulatory compliance standpoint, these are trips and traps for the unwary attorney and debt collector."

As the economy changes, and consumers and businesses feel the pinch, strategies for collecting money and avoiding legal liability are becoming increasingly valuable. Faculty at this seminar will provide a summary of the remedies available to the judgment creditor and the legal mechanisms for recovery. This seminar is designed for attorneys. However, credit and collections managers, presidents, vice presidents, and commercial lending professionals may also benefit. This program has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of Texas Committee for six credit hours, of which one hour will apply to legal ethics/professional responsibility.
