Hughes Watters Askanase Partner Lawrence A. Young
Elected as First Vice President of The National Association of Dealer Counsel

     HOUSTON, Texas (June 23, 2011) – Lawrence A. “Larry” Young, a partner with Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA), was elected recently as first vice president of The National Association of Dealer Counsel (The NADC).  Young, a member of The NADC since its inception in 2004 and a frequent speaker at legal and professional events, is serving a two-year term that began in April 2011.

     The NADC is a nationwide professional organization of approximately 500 attorneys who represent automobile and other vehicle dealers. The NADC provides a forum for members to share information, common experience, and advice related to manufacturer franchise issues, lemon laws, vehicle finance, regulatory complexities, insurance laws, tax laws, buy/sell agreements, employment law, and many other issues facing dealers and their counsel today.

     Young’s practice at HWA is focused on auto dealer compliance issues, consumer financial services (including litigation), bankruptcy law for creditors, commercial finance and entertainment law. He joined HWA in 1994 and has been a partner with the firm for 17 years. Prior to joining HWA, Young worked as in-house counsel and in private law practice with national and local firms. Early in his career, he was a law clerk on the Michigan Supreme Court and a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer in the Marine Corps Reserve.

     Young frequently serves as a source for local and national media for legal commentary on a variety of consumer finance and bankruptcy topics. He has been quoted by Bloomberg News, CNN Radio, NPR, The Houston Chronicle, KRIV Fox 26 TV and other regional TV stations, The Michigan Business Review, The Journal of Consumer and Commercial Law, the Wall Street Journal, and many other media outlets. He recently appeared as a guest on The Bauer Business Focus segment on KUHF 88.7FM Houston Public Radio. Young is a fellow of both the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers and the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers. Young is the Texas state editor for both CARLAW and HOUSELAW and serves on the advisory board of the Consumer Financial Services Law Report. He is also the chair ex officio of the Conference on Consumer Finance Law and the former editor of the Consumer Finance Law QUARTERLY REPORT.
