Hughes Watters Askanase Associate Kristen L. Baker
Accepted to Houston Young Lawyers Association’s
Leadership Academy

HOUSTON, Texas (Nov. 13, 2012) – Kristen L. Baker, an associate with the Consumer Financial Services and Default Servicing Practice Groups of Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA) has been accepted to the 2012-2013 class of the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s Leadership Academy. The class runs from November 2012 through June 2013.

According to HYLA (, HYLA’s Leadership Academy prepares young attorneys for leadership roles in HYLA and other organizations. Class members learn from community leaders, experts in the field of communication, negotiation and other areas critical to developing leadership skills. Applicants are selected based on several criteria, including, leadership skills, abilities, and potential; achievements and accomplishments; and community and bar association involvement.

“Kristen is a remarkable young lawyer who is has already demonstrated leadership qualities which make her a natural fit for the Houston Young Lawyers Association Leadership Academy. She has been very involved with HYLA since her law school days, and we are proud of her commitment and hard work. We were thrilled that she was chosen for the 2012-2013 class,” commented Dominique Varner, partner at HWA.

Baker joined HWA in August 2010. Prior to joining HWA, she served as a law clerk for Baker & Associates in Houston and as a law clerk at HWA from August 2009 until May 2010. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November 2010.

Baker earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University in 2007 and a Juris Doctor from University of Houston Law Center in May 2010.

In addition to being a member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association, Baker is a member of the American Bar Association, Arthur L. Moller-David B. Foltz American Inn of Court, Houston Association of Young Bankruptcy Lawyers, Houston Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the Texas A&M Houston Howdy Club. She also won numerous awards and earned several honors during her college and law school years.
