John Farrell joined Hughes Watters Askanase in 2005. John is in a position to offer a unique perspective to his clients given his combined legal and accounting experience. He has been practicing law for 12 years and worked as an accountant for 7 years before attending law school. John's practical knowledge and experience in the business world make him uniquely qualified to advise business clients and financial institutions providing financing for business transactions.
John actively engages in business development activities for the firm. He also enjoys mentoring other HWA employees to encourage collaboration, foster client and workplace satisfaction, and secure results.
John was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1996 and to the Colorado State Bar in 1997. Before joining HWA, John practiced law with Gary Gunn and Robert Mullins in their firm Gunn Mullins & Farrell, LLP from April 2002 through June 2005.
John worked as a staff accountant for 2 years with Ixex Corporation and served with Mitchell Energy and Development Corporation for 5 years in various financial planning, budgeting and reporting roles.
CLIENT EXPERIENCE
John's practice includes the representation of financial institutions in negotiating and preparing loan documentation as well as performing due diligence related thereto. John's typical financing transactions include acquisition of real estate, businesses and equipment, construction of commercial and leasehold improvements and other business purpose loans for U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) guaranteed and conventional loans.
John's real estate experience involves the representation of clients in the acquisition and sale of commercial real estate properties as well as landlord/tenant agreements and other leasing related matters.
John's business planning activities include business formation, development, acquisition, and dissolution transactions along with asset purchases and other complex contractual matters.
